Over the past 12 years the Precious Metals Database has helped Law Enforcement in several counties locate stolen goods that were being pawned in Luzerne County. The Instant access to Police has been invaluable to solving several crimes.

The Online database began in 2008 with all dealers in Luzerne County entering their purchases and has now grown to over 125 Dealers and over 150 Police departments. Several police departments in Lackawanna County are using the database to search for stolen items as well and have gained leads from the info. See stories below.

The database has been upgraded to allow for the reporting of Second Hand Goods as well as Precious Metals Sales. Various boroughs and Cities have shown interest in this type of reporting when required by municipal ordinance and laws. There are several neighboring Counties who will soon be using it to solve crimes such as burglaries, thefts and receiving stolen property.

Success Stories
West Pittston Police received a report of a theft of two rings and a five dollar gold coin. The victim informed police that he had carpet installed in his house at the time of the theft. The Officer contacted the carpet installer and retrieved the names of the individuals that installed the carpet. Upon signing onto the Precious Metals database web site and began to check for the item(s) that were sold by the individuals from the carpet place. The missing items that matched the descriptions of the victims that were sold by suspect, who was one of the carpet installers. The items were recovered and were positively identified by the victim.

The Precious Metals database was used in several other burglary/theft investigations conducted by our department that led to the arrest and prosecution of several in individuals. The database is a great asset to our department. Thanks,
